Pin files and documents for quick access

ComputerWeb app2 min readUpdated October 3, 2026

Pin the documents and project files you use most. They appear as shortcuts at the top of the project, so you can open them from Conversations, Files, or Workflows.

Steps

  1. Open the item’s menu

In Files, right-click a document or project file on Files home, in the explorer, or on its tab. You can also point to it and select the … button.

  2. Choose Pin

For a document you have open, you can instead select the pin button at its top right.

  3. Use the shortcut

The item appears in the bar at the top of the project, to the right of Conversations, Files, and Workflows. Select it from any of those sections to open it in Files.

  4. Unpin when you’re done

Choose Unpin from the same menu, or select the pin button on the document again.

Good to know

  • If there isn’t room for every shortcut, the bar shows as many as fit and a button such as +3 lists the rest. The item you have open always stays visible.
  • When every shortcut fits, a small down arrow at the end of the bar lists them all. Select the × beside one to unpin it. Right-click a shortcut to see the same options for that one.
  • Pinned documents come first in Your documents and show a pin on their card. Select the pin on the card to unpin it.
  • In a document’s Document actions menu, the options are Pin document and Unpin document.
  • Pins belong to each project and are saved on this device. In the web app, they’re saved in this browser. Other devices and the iPhone app don’t share them.
  • Renaming a pinned file keeps its pin. Deleting it from its menu removes the pin.
  • Archived documents can’t be pinned. A pinned document you archive keeps its pin, but its shortcut is hidden until you restore it. See Archive and restore documents.
  • Pinning projects is different. See Pin projects as tabs.

If something goes wrong

Pin is greyed out

The document is archived. Restore it first.

A shortcut opens “This document is no longer available.”

The document was deleted somewhere other than its menu in Files, such as from Document actions or on another device. Open the shortcuts list at the end of the bar and select the × beside it to unpin it.
