Links, files, and images in replies

Where web links, links to files on your computer, and images in an agent's reply open, and what to do when one won't.

Agents often link to websites, to files they changed, and to images such as screenshots of your app. Where each one opens depends on what it points to, and on whether you use the computer app or the web app.

In the computer app:

  • Links to a website running on your computer, such as http://localhost:3000, open in the built-in browser beside the conversation. See See your site beside the conversation.
  • Links to other websites open in your default browser, so you stay signed in to them.
  • Links to downloadable files, such as a .zip or .pdf file, open in your default browser, even when a website on your computer serves them.

In the web app, links open in a new browser tab. A link to the website the agent opened for this conversation shows it beside the conversation instead. See See your site from the web app or your iPhone.

Links to things in Enjoy, such as a doc, a workflow, or another conversation, open inside Enjoy.

Agents often link to the files they changed. In the computer app, selecting one of these links opens the file outside Enjoy:

  • Code files, such as .js, .ts, .py, .css, or .swift files, open in your text editor: the default text editor on a Mac, Notepad on Windows, and the default text editor on Linux. A line number after the name, such as app.ts:42, is ignored.
  • Other files, such as HTML, Markdown, text, PDF, images, CSV, JSON, YAML, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and 3D model files, open in their default app.

For safety, links can’t open programs or scripts, and a link without a full path must point inside the project. In the web app, file links show “open this local file in the desktop app.”

Images

Images in a reply appear right in the message, whether they come from the web or from your project, such as a screenshot the agent took. Images from your project can be PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, or SVG files up to 20 MB.

In the computer app, select an image to open it. Images from your project open in their default app, and images from the web open in your browser.

In the web app, images inside your project folder appear too. Images stored elsewhere on your computer show as unavailable.

Chips for docs, files, and attachments

Mentions and attachments appear as chips. Hover over a chip, or move to it with the keyboard, to peek at what’s inside: the start of a doc, a workflow’s instructions, the first lines of a file, or the image itself.

Select a doc, file, or workflow chip to open it in Enjoy. Selecting an image chip opens the image in its default app in the computer app, or downloads it in the web app. Chips for other attached files show a preview but don’t open.

A preview that says “Couldn’t read this file. It may have moved or been deleted.” means the file is gone from where it was. For a doc, it says “This document was deleted or couldn’t be loaded.”

  • “couldn’t open this local file. check that it still exists and is a supported document.” The file was moved or deleted, or it’s a type Enjoy won’t open from a message. If it’s in your project, look for it in the Files area instead.
  • “couldn’t open this link. try again or copy its address.” Try again, or copy the link’s address into your browser.
  • An image shows “is unavailable” after its name. The image was moved or deleted, or it’s outside the project and you’re using the web app.
