Copy a message

ComputerWeb appiPhone1 min readUpdated October 3, 2026

Copy the text of a message in a conversation with its copy button, to reuse it in a doc, an email, or another conversation.

Steps

  1. Point to the message

Move the pointer over the message, or move to it with the Tab key. A copy button appears in its corner.

  2. Select the copy button

It turns into a check mark for a moment when the text is on your clipboard.

  3. Paste it where you need it

Press ⌘V on a Mac, or Ctrl+V on Windows and Linux.

Good to know

  • The button copies the whole message as it was written. Agent replies use Markdown, a simple way to mark formatting, so the formatting comes along as symbols, such as ** around bold words or # before headings.
  • In your own messages, mentions are copied as Markdown links, and attachments as their names in brackets, such as [screenshot.png]. Attachments added as files, rather than as images, also add a line with their saved location.
  • Messages without any text, such as the first message of a workflow run, don’t have a copy button. Neither do messages still marked Waiting to send.
  • To copy part of a message, select the text you want and press ⌘C on a Mac, or Ctrl+C on Windows and Linux.
  • In the iPhone app, touch and hold a message’s text to copy it. Code blocks in replies also offer Copy code when you touch and hold them.
