How to use Claude Code from your phone in 2026: 8 ways compared
Start with Anthropic’s own. With a paid Claude plan, Remote Control drives Claude Code on your computer from the Claude app, and cloud sessions keep going with your laptop shut. Happy and Paseo are free and open source and run Codex too; SSH over Tailscale with tmux puts a plain terminal on your phone; and Enjoy, with Enjoy Cloud, runs every lab’s agent across all your projects.
Disclosure: Enjoy is our product. We checked every way below against its maker’s own pages on October 27, 2026, and we say where another way is the better pick, including the free ones that don’t need Enjoy.
The ways to use Claude Code from your phone, compared
Anthropic’s mobile guide puts it plainly: “Claude Code doesn’t have a separate mobile app.” The Claude app for iPhone and Android is “a client for Claude Code sessions rather than a place where code runs.” In every way below, the agent runs on your computer or in Anthropic’s cloud, and your phone steers it.
| Way | Best for | Price, checked October 27, 2026 | Where the agent runs | On the phone | Agents |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Remote Control, in the Claude app | Carrying on a session from your desk | Included in Claude Pro ($20 a month), Max (from $100), Team and Enterprise | Your computer | Claude app for iPhone and Android, or a browser | Claude Code |
| Cloud sessions, in the Claude app | Work that keeps going with your laptop shut | Included in Pro, Max and Team; uses your plan’s limits | Anthropic’s cloud | Claude app, or a browser | Claude Code |
| Happy | Claude Code and Codex, free, with voice | Free; more voice is an in-app subscription | Your computer | iPhone, Android and web apps | Claude Code and Codex; Grok in its desktop app |
| Paseo | Many agents on one machine or several, free | Free | Your computers | iPhone, Android and web apps | Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Antigravity, Muse Code and more |
| Orca | Watching agents and terminals, free | Free | Your computer, or an Orca server you run | iPhone and Android apps, in beta | Claude Code, Codex and any other coding agent |
| Conductor | Mac users already on Conductor Pro | Pro, $50 a month | Your Mac | iPhone app | Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode |
| SSH, with Tailscale and tmux | A plain terminal, with nothing in between | Free; Tailscale is free for personal use | Your computer | Any SSH app | Anything that runs in a terminal |
| Enjoy | Every lab’s agent, across all your projects | Free; your phone needs Enjoy Cloud (pricing) | Your computers | Any phone’s browser | Claude Code, Codex, Grok Build, Antigravity, Muse Code, OpenCode |
Prices are per month as each maker lists them, before tax. Each way uses your own Claude account, and Claude’s pricing leaves Claude Code out of Free: “Claude Code is included in all paid plans.” Every way but cloud sessions also needs your computer on, awake and online while you work from your phone.
Remote Control, in the Claude app
Best for: carrying on a Claude Code session you started at your desk.
Remote Control “connects claude.ai/code or the Claude app for iOS and Android to a Claude Code session running on your machine.” Start it with claude remote-control, or run /remote-control in a session that’s already open. Then, in the docs’ words, “scan the QR code the terminal can display, or open the Claude app, tap Code, and pick the session from the list.” Your “filesystem, MCP servers, tools, and project configuration all stay available,” and Claude can send push notifications “when a long-running task finishes or when it needs a decision from you,” once you turn them on in /config.
Your machine “makes outbound HTTPS requests only and never opens inbound ports,” and “All traffic travels through the Anthropic API over TLS.” On Pro and Max there’s also Dispatch: you message a task from the app, and it can start a Code session in the Claude desktop app on your computer.
Price: included in Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Claude’s pricing has Pro at $20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly, and Max “From $100.” On Team and Enterprise, “an Owner must first enable the Remote Control toggle.”
Watch for: “your computer has to stay on and the claude process has to keep running.” “API keys are not supported,” and it isn’t available through Amazon Bedrock or when ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL points “at a host other than api.anthropic.com.” Outside its server mode, “each Claude Code instance supports one remote session at a time,” and commands such as /plugin and /resume “work only from the local CLI.” It runs only Claude Code.
Cloud sessions, in the Claude app
Best for: work that keeps going after you close your laptop, on a GitHub repository.
Cloud sessions “run tasks on cloud infrastructure, Anthropic-managed by default, so a session continues after you put your phone away.” In the Code tab, you “select a repository and branch, describe the task, and submit it,” and the session is there on your laptop later. You can also have Claude watch a pull request and fix CI failures and review comments as they arrive.
Price: “Cloud sessions are available on Pro, Max, and Team plans, and for Enterprise users with premium seats or Chat + Claude Code seats.” Each one “counts toward your plan’s usage limits alongside the rest of your Claude and Claude Code usage, and there’s no separate charge for the cloud VM.”
Watch for: “repository cloning and pull request creation require GitHub.” You can send a GitLab or Bitbucket repository as a bundle, “but the session can’t push results back to that remote.” The session runs in a cloud environment, not on your computer, so your local tools and files aren’t there. And “Running multiple tasks in parallel consumes more rate limits proportionately.”
Happy
Best for: a free, open-source app for Claude Code and Codex, with voice.
Happy is “free and MIT licensed, and the models run on your own Claude, Codex, and Grok subscriptions.” Its desktop app runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, and its original command line wraps Claude Code and Codex: npm install -g happy, then happy claude or happy codex. Its mobile access page says: “Pair the Happy app for iPhone or Android once, and every session on your computer is on your phone, end-to-end encrypted.” The relay “sees that machines and sessions exist and when they were active, not what is in them.” You can also invite someone into a session to watch and steer the same agent.
Price: free. Voice in the phone app is “20 free minutes per 30 days, then up to 5 hours per 30 days on the in-app subscription.”
Watch for: “The agent stays on your machine,” so that machine has to be on. And the desktop app runs Happy’s own agent runtime, with each model’s “vendor’s own prompts and tools”: to drive Claude Code itself, use the original command line, happy claude.
Paseo
Best for: many agents, on one machine or several, free.
Paseo says “Run many coding agents at once, on any machine.” It’s free and open source under Apache 2.0, with desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, phone apps for iOS and Android, and a web app at app.paseo.sh. Its README says “The mobile app is the full app, native on iOS and Android.” It has “custom implementations for Claude, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, OMP, Antigravity, and Muse Code, and supports many more via ACP.” To pair a phone, “open Settings → your host → Pair Device.” The hosted relay is “end-to-end encrypted, Paseo can’t read your traffic,” or you can skip it and “connect directly over TCP, Tailscale, or another VPN.”
Price: free.
Watch for: “Paseo runs a local server called the daemon that manages your coding agents,” and “Agents run on your machine,” so the machine running the daemon has to be on. Paseo Hub, for teams to “Share access or start work from GitHub, Slack, and Discord,” has no price on its homepage.
Orca
Best for: keeping an eye on agents and terminals, free.
Orca runs “Claude Code, Codex, and any other coding agent in parallel,” and it’s “Free and open source for macOS, Windows, and Linux,” under the MIT license. Its mobile companion “is an iOS/Android app that pairs with your desktop Orca.” From it you can “Start an agent on a workspace from the phone,” type into its terminals, “Send a short reply” when an agent is waiting, browse files, commit, switch accounts and get push notifications.
Price: free.
Watch for: “The mobile companion is in beta,” “The mobile app is intentionally not a full editor,” and “Closing the desktop app drops a direct/LAN session until you reopen it.” For agents that keep going while your laptop sleeps, Orca’s answer is a Remote Orca Server on “an old laptop, Mac mini, home server, cloud VPS, or team box” that you run yourself.
Conductor
Best for: Mac users who already run their agents in Conductor and pay for Pro.
Conductor “can run Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode sessions in isolated workspaces” on a Mac. Version 0.90.0 brought Conductor to iOS on October 2, and 0.92.0 added remote control on October 23, which “lets you use the Conductor iOS app to work in the local workspaces on your Mac.” “Traffic between your iPhone and your Mac is end-to-end encrypted.”
Price: its pricing lists the mobile app under Pro, at $50 a month, and Teams at $60 a user a month.
Watch for: “Remote control is experimental.” “Conductor must be open on your Mac, and your Mac must be awake and online,” and “Remote control works with local workspaces only.” Conductor itself “is not available for Windows or Linux yet,” and its docs describe only the iOS app.
SSH, with Tailscale and tmux
Best for: a plain terminal on your phone, with no coding app in between.
The do-it-yourself way: put your computer and phone on one private network with Tailscale, connect from an SSH app on the phone, such as Blink Shell or Termius, and run Claude Code inside tmux so it survives a dropped connection. Claude Code’s own docs advise it: “If you run claude from a terminal on a remote machine, start it inside tmux or screen to keep the session running after you disconnect from SSH.” Tailscale SSH “lets Tailscale manage the authentication and authorization of SSH connections,” though its server side “is only available on” Linux and Tailscale’s open-source command-line version for macOS; elsewhere, use the computer’s own SSH server.
Price: free. Tailscale’s Personal plan is “Free forever” for “Up to 6 users,” and its Standard plan is $8 a user a month.
Watch for: Tailscale says the Personal plan “is only suitable for non-commercial use.” It’s a terminal on a phone screen, with nothing to tell you when Claude needs you unless you set that up yourself. In return, it works with Codex or any other agent that runs in a terminal.
Enjoy
Best for: every lab’s agent, across every project on your computer, from your phone.
Enjoy runs Claude Code, Codex, Grok Build, Antigravity, Muse Code, and local models through OpenCode, on Mac, Windows and Linux, on the plans you already have. With Enjoy Cloud, you open app.enjoy.dev in your phone’s browser and connect it to your computer once, by scanning a QR code and checking that six digits match. From your phone you can start conversations in any project, answer agents’ questions, switch a conversation to another agent, model or effort, read and edit files, open the sites your agents start, run workflows, and ask JOY what needs you.
Every connection between the phone and your computer is end-to-end encrypted: “Only your computer and that device can read what passes between them.” And while an agent works, Enjoy keeps your computer from going to sleep for lack of use, though not when you close a laptop’s lid.
Price: Enjoy is free on your computer, with no account. Enjoy Cloud, a monthly subscription, adds your phone and any browser, your other computers and teammates, and activating Enjoy within 12 hours of first opening it gives a new account 30 days of Enjoy Cloud without a card. See pricing.
Watch for: your computer has to be “On and awake,” “Online,” and “Running Enjoy, signed in to your account.” Signing in to and installing agents stays on the computer, and a phone you set to Limited leaves approving agents’ requests to the computer too. “On a phone, the browser pauses Enjoy while you’re in another app or the screen is locked.” Enjoy isn’t open source, and the phone needs Enjoy Cloud.
When to stay with the Claude app
If Claude Code is the only agent you use, Anthropic’s own way is the one to beat: Remote Control costs nothing on top of your plan, keeps your local tools, and sends push notifications, and cloud sessions cover the nights your laptop is shut. Start there.
Look further when you want Codex or another lab’s agent on the same phone, voice, or Claude Code on an API key or a gateway, which Remote Control doesn’t support and a plain SSH terminal does.
How we compared
We read Anthropic’s Claude Code docs and pricing, and Happy’s, Paseo’s, Orca’s, Conductor’s, Tailscale’s and OpenAI’s own pages on October 27, 2026, and every one is linked below. We quote each maker’s own words for its limits and leave out what it hasn’t documented. These apps change weekly, so we recheck this guide against its sources at least once a month, and the date at the foot of the page says when we last did.
12.Questions.
Can I use Claude Code on my phone?
- Yes, in the Claude app for iPhone and Android, on a paid Claude plan. Anthropic says “Claude Code doesn’t have a separate mobile app”: the app’s Code tab reaches cloud sessions, which run on Anthropic’s servers, and Remote Control, which drives a session on your own computer.
Is Claude Code Remote Control free?
- It comes at no extra charge with every paid Claude plan, Pro at $20 a month, Max from $100, Team and Enterprise. “API keys are not supported,” and on Team and Enterprise “an Owner must first enable the Remote Control toggle.”
Does my computer have to stay on?
- Yes, for every way here except cloud sessions. Anthropic’s docs say that with Remote Control “your computer has to stay on and the claude process has to keep running,” and Happy, Paseo, Orca, Conductor, SSH and Enjoy all run the agent on your computer too. Cloud sessions run on Anthropic’s servers and keep going after you close your laptop.
Can I use Codex from my phone too?
- Yes. The ChatGPT app for iPhone and Android controls Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app on a Mac or Windows computer “that’s awake, online, and signed in to the same account and workspace.” Happy, Paseo, Orca, Conductor and Enjoy run Codex beside Claude Code, and SSH works with any agent that runs in a terminal.
What’s the best free way to use Claude Code from my phone?
- Remote Control, if you already pay for Claude. It’s Anthropic’s own, costs nothing on top of your plan, and sends push notifications. Happy and Paseo are free and open source and run Codex too, and SSH over Tailscale costs nothing for personal use.
Is it safe to control Claude Code from my phone?
- The connections are protected, in different ways. Remote Control’s traffic “travels through the Anthropic API over TLS,” and Happy, Paseo’s hosted relay, Conductor and Enjoy say theirs is end-to-end encrypted, so the relay in between can’t read it. Anyone holding an approved phone can steer your agent, so lock your phone and remove one you lose.
