Choose where a project's conversations are stored

Computer3 min readUpdated October 3, 2026

See where Enjoy keeps a project's conversations, documents, and workflows on your computer, and move them to another folder if you want.

Your project’s own files stay in its folder. Enjoy keeps the project’s conversations, documents, and workflows separately, in its own storage on your computer. Because they’re outside the project folder, switching branches, using worktrees, or going back to an earlier commit never hides your latest conversations.

By default, Enjoy keeps them in its application data, in a folder named after the project with a short code added, so two projects with the same name never share one. That folder is inside:

  • On a Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/app.enjoy.desktop/projects/, where ~ is your home folder.
  • On Windows: AppData\Local\app.enjoy.desktop\projects\ in your user folder. You can type %LOCALAPPDATA%\app.enjoy.desktop\projects in File Explorer’s address bar to go there.
  • On Linux: ~/.local/share/app.enjoy.desktop/projects/.

You can move them to a folder you choose instead, for example one on another drive.

Steps

  1. Select Project settings

It’s the button with sliders at the right end of the bar below the project tabs.

  2. Expand Storage

Select Storage. It shows Default or Custom, and the exact location of the project’s Enjoy files.

  3. Choose the new folder

Select Change folder…, then choose an empty folder, or a folder that already holds this project’s Enjoy files.

  4. Wait for the move to finish

Enjoy shows how many files it has moved so far, such as Moving 12 of 340 files…. The project switches to the new folder once every file is copied and checked.

Good to know

  • Changes under Storage apply right away. You don’t need to select Save.
  • To see the files, select Show in Finder on a Mac, Show in File Explorer on Windows, or Show in file manager on Linux.
  • To move them back, select Use default location.
  • If you choose a folder that already has this project’s Enjoy files, Enjoy asks: That folder already has Enjoy files. Use them for this project? Its current files stay where they are. Select Use these files to switch to them without copying anything.
  • Projects from older versions of Enjoy kept these records in a .enjoy folder inside the project. Enjoy shows Your Enjoy files are moving and asks you to select Move files. If the project uses Git, Git then shows the .enjoy folder as deleted. Commit that whenever you like.
  • If switching branches brings back an old .enjoy folder that has conversations or files the project doesn’t have, Enjoy offers to add them. Select Bring them in. Enjoy adds them without losing anything the project already has, then removes the old folder.
  • Removing a project from Enjoy doesn’t delete its Enjoy files. If you open the folder again, its conversations come back. Delete all application data… keeps them too. See Delete all application data.
  • Storage is only in the computer app.

If something goes wrong

“Choose an empty folder, or one that already has this project’s Enjoy files.”

The folder has other files in it. Create a new, empty folder and choose that.

“That folder holds another project’s Enjoy files”

Each project needs its own folder. Choose or create a different one.

“Choose a folder outside Enjoy’s application data, or use the default location”

Folders inside Enjoy’s application data are managed by Enjoy. Choose a folder somewhere else, or select Use default location.

“This project’s Enjoy files aren’t available at …”

The folder you chose can’t be reached, for example because it’s on a drive that isn’t connected. Reconnect the drive. See Fix a project that’s unavailable.

Some files didn’t move

When moving old .enjoy files fails, Enjoy shows Nothing was lost. Files stay where they were until they can move. Select Try again. To stop using a project whose files won’t move, select Remove from Enjoy beside it.
