What's in the Processes list

Processes are programs your agent leaves running in the background, like the server that shows your website. The Processes list shows what's running, what it's printing, and lets you open or stop it.

What a process is

Most commands an agent runs finish in a moment. Some keep running in the background until someone stops them. The most common is a development server: the program that serves your website at an address on your computer, such as http://localhost:3000, while you work on it. Others watch files for changes or carry out a long job.

Agents tell Enjoy about each one they start, so Enjoy can keep track of it. Some agents also report background tasks of their own, which appear here too.

Where to find it

  • Select Processes, the icon button just left of Project settings on the right side of the project bar. A number on it shows how many processes there are. You can also press ⌥⌘4 on a Mac, or Ctrl+Alt+4 on Windows and Linux.
  • Inside a conversation, a small processes button with a number appears in the message box’s toolbar when that conversation has processes. Select it to see them, then select one to open its details and output in a window over the conversation, so you keep your place.

What the list shows

Processes are grouped under the conversation that started them. Each row shows the process’s name and a dot for its status. On the computer app, an Open button appears when the process is serving a website. See Open a running website from Processes.

Type in Search processes… to find a process by its name, its conversation, or its details. Select a process to see:

  • A link to the conversation that started it.
  • Open in browser, for a process serving a website on the computer app.
  • Stop. See Stop a background process.
  • Process details, with what the agent recorded about it, such as its folder, command, and address.
  • Its Output. See Read a process’s output.

Statuses

  • Running: Enjoy has confirmed the process is running on the computer.
  • Stop requested…: Enjoy is stopping it.
  • Couldn’t stop: stopping failed. The details say why.
  • Needs checking: Enjoy can’t confirm the process is still running. Open it and look at its output. If it’s fine, select Mark as good. While any process needs checking, the top of the list shows how many, such as “2 to check”, with Mark all as good.

Enjoy tidies up on its own

Enjoy checks the processes every few seconds. When one exits, it disappears from the list without you doing anything.

  • Completing a conversation doesn’t stop its processes. Your website keeps running.
  • Deleting a conversation stops the processes it started. So does removing the project from Enjoy.
  • Running processes don’t get in your way. You can still switch agents or models, delete conversations, and update Enjoy.
  • Quitting Enjoy on a Mac or Linux computer can leave processes your agents registered running in the background, and Enjoy finds them again when you reopen it. On Windows, they end when their agent closes.

When nothing is running, the list says Nothing running yet.

On the web app and the iPhone app

  • Web app: the same list, details, output, and Stop. Opening a process’s website from Processes only works in the computer app. The site itself can still show beside its conversation. See See your site from the web app or your iPhone.
  • iPhone app: open a conversation and select the processes button in the message box to see that conversation’s processes, follow their output, and stop them.
