Stay in the loop without watching

You don't need to watch an agent work. Let Enjoy tell you when it replies or needs you, answer questions quickly, and plan around the steps that need your computer.

Agents often work for several minutes. You can do something else in the meantime, as long as you come back when an agent needs you. When it asks a question, it stops and waits for your answer.

How Enjoy gets your attention

  • Sounds. Enjoy plays one sound when an agent sends a message and another when it needs a decision. This works in the computer app and the web app.
  • Mac notifications. On a Mac, the computer app also shows a notification when an agent replies or needs a decision while you’re in another app. Select it to jump to the conversation.
  • Badges. On a Mac, the Dock icon counts conversations that need you plus unread replies. Inside Enjoy, project tabs show how many agents are working and how many conversations have unread replies.
  • Filters. In the conversation list, Needs you shows conversations waiting on you, and Unread shows new replies.

To choose which alerts you get, select the circle with your initial in the top-right corner to open Your account, then select App settings. On a Mac, Agent alerts has Sound and Notify switches for when an agent sends a message and when it needs a decision. Elsewhere, there are two sound switches. They’re all on to start with.

Habits that help

  1. Check Needs you first. In the normal list view, each conversation there shows the agent’s question and Respond. Answering unblocks the agent right away.
  2. Answer in the question card. If you send an ordinary message instead, Enjoy dismisses the open questions without an answer. To set a question aside on purpose, select Dismiss.
  3. Know which steps need your computer. You can answer questions from the web app or your phone, but permission requests have to be approved at your computer. In the web app, the card says Review and approve this action in Enjoy on your desktop. Keep that in mind when you choose a permission mode before stepping away. See Choose what your agent can do without asking.
  4. Leave yourself reminders. Choose Mark as unread in a conversation’s Conversation actions menu to come back to a reply later.
  5. Keep Enjoy running. While agents work, Enjoy keeps your computer from sleeping. On a Mac, closing the window keeps Enjoy running; on Windows and Linux, closing it quits Enjoy and stops the agents.

An example

You ask an agent to rebuild your contact page and switch to email. A few minutes later a notification says the agent needs a decision. You select it, pick “Send messages to my inbox” in the question card, select Confirm, and go back to your email. The next notification is the finished reply.

Common pitfalls

  • Turning all alerts off. Keep at least the decision alerts on. A question nobody answers stops all the work behind it.
  • Watching every step. OpenAI’s Codex guide lists “treating Codex like something you have to watch step by step” as a common mistake. Use the time for something else, then check the result. See Check the agent’s work.
  • Expecting your phone to buzz. The iPhone app doesn’t send notifications. It updates while it’s open. See Work from your phone.
