Write a custom schedule for a workflow

ComputerWeb app2 min readUpdated October 3, 2026

When every day, every weekday, or every week doesn't fit, choose Advanced… and describe the schedule with a five-part cron expression.

In a workflow’s editor, choose Advanced… in Repeat and type the schedule in Cron expression. For a workflow without a schedule, the box starts with 0 9 * * 1-5, which means 9:00 every weekday. The schedule follows the time zone shown below it. See Schedule a workflow for the full steps.

How a cron expression works

A cron expression has five parts separated by spaces. In order:

  1. The minute, from 0 to 59.
  2. The hour, from 0 to 23.
  3. The day of the month, from 1 to 31.
  4. The month, from 1 to 12.
  5. The day of the week, from 0 to 6, where 0 is Sunday and 1 is Monday.

Each part can use:

  • A number, such as 9.
  • * for “every”.
  • A range with -, such as 1-5 for Monday to Friday.
  • A list with ,, such as 1,3,5 for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • A step with /, such as */3 in the hour part for every third hour.

Enjoy doesn’t accept seconds, day or month names like MON or JAN, or shortcuts like @daily.

Examples

Cron expression Runs at
0 9 * * 1-5 9:00, Monday to Friday
30 17 * * 5 17:30 (5:30 PM) every Friday
0 8,14 * * * 8:00 and 14:00 every day
0 8 1 * * 8:00 on the first day of every month
0 */3 * * * Every three hours, on the hour

After you save, the workflow’s row shows the cron expression as its schedule. If your expression runs at one time on every day, on weekdays (1-5), or on one day of the week, such as 30 17 * * 5, the editor shows it as Every day, Every weekday, or Every week the next time you open it. The timing stays the same.

If Enjoy won’t save it

  • “Use a five-field cron schedule (minute, hour, day, month, weekday).” The expression doesn’t have exactly five parts, or it uses letters or symbols other than the ones above.
  • Another error. A number may be out of range, such as minute 60, or the schedule may never happen, such as February 30.

Your draft stays in the editor until the save works, and the saved workflow doesn’t change. You can also ask your agent to set the schedule for you. See Ask your agent to create or change a workflow.
