Save your changes with a commit

A commit saves a snapshot of your project that you can review, push, and go back to. Ask your agent to make one, or tell it to commit after every change.

Enjoy doesn’t have a commit button of its own. Your agent makes commits with Git, and Enjoy shows each one under the agent’s reply.

Before you start

  • Your project uses Git. If there’s no branch button at the bottom of the message box, ask your agent to set up Git first, for example: “Set up Git for this project and commit everything.”

Steps

  1. Open the conversation that made the changes

Its agent knows what it changed and can describe it well.

  2. Ask for a commit

Type something like “Commit your changes with a short message that says what changed,” and send it.

  3. Check the commit

When the agent finishes, its reply shows View changes. Select it to see every file in the commit. See Review the changes an agent made.

Good to know

  • Commit as you go. To have your agent commit after each change, open Project settings, expand Instructions, type an instruction such as “Commit changes after every change.”, and select Save. See Give agents instructions for a project.
  • A commit is saved on your computer, on the branch the conversation works on. In a worktree, that’s the worktree’s own branch. To send it online, push the branch. See Push your branch.
  • View changes appears when the agent reports the commits it made during that reply. If you don’t see it, ask the agent whether it committed.
  • You can ask from the web app or the iPhone app too. The agent commits on your computer.
  • Enjoy makes commits itself in only two cases: when switching branches would overwrite your changes and you choose Commit and switch branch…, and when you merge a worktree, which can add a merge commit. See Switch branches with uncommitted changes and Merge a worktree into your project.
  • Commits let you go back later. See Undo changes an agent made.

If something goes wrong

The agent says the project isn’t using Git

Ask it to set up Git for the project and make a first commit, then ask again.

The agent says Git doesn’t know who you are

Git records a name and an email address with each commit. Ask the agent to set them up with the name and email you want on your commits, then commit again.
