Google AI Plus loses Gemini Pro on November 13. What stays, and what to do
From November 13, 2026, says the email Google is sending subscribers, Google AI Plus ($4.99 a month) can no longer select Pro models in the Gemini app or AI Mode in Search. Flash and Flash-Lite stay, and old Pro chats carry on with another model. Keeping Pro takes Google AI Pro, at $19.99. Google hasn’t mentioned refunds, and on November 18 AI Plus also loses Claude in Antigravity.
What changes on November 13
In mid-October, Google began emailing Google AI Plus subscribers about their plan. The copy 9to5Google published, from a subscriber’s post on Reddit, reads: “Starting on 13 November 2026, the ability to select Pro models in both the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search will only be available to Google AI Pro subscribers and above. You’ll still have access to our latest Flash-Lite model and Flash, built for speed and intelligence. Your previous chats using the Pro model can be continued with a different model.”
Google’s help page confirms the change but not the day. It shows AI Plus with Flash-Lite and Flash and without Pro, and tells subscribers only that “you should receive an email that explains when these changes will take effect for you.” So November 13 is the date in the emails reported so far, not one Google has published.
“Pro” today means Gemini 3.1 Pro, the model Google’s plans page lists for AI Pro beside Gemini 4 Argon, and the one Android Authority said AI Plus would lose. Argon launched for AI Pro and Ultra only, so AI Plus never had it. Google’s subscriptions page already sells AI Plus with “Access to our Flash model” alone. On November 4, its models page still listed Pro under AI Plus.
Here are Google’s personal plans once the change takes effect, in US prices on November 4:
| No plan | AI Plus | AI Pro | AI Ultra | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price a month | $0 | $4.99 with 400 GB, $9.99 with 2 TB | $19.99 | $99.99 or $199.99 |
| Models you can choose | Auto or Flash-Lite | Flash-Lite, Flash | Flash-Lite, Flash, Pro, Argon | Flash-Lite, Flash, Pro, Argon |
| Usage limit | Standard | 2x standard | 4x standard | 5x or 20x AI Pro’s |
| Context window | 32k tokens | 128k tokens | 1 million tokens | 1 million tokens |
| Storage | 15 GB | 400 GB or 2 TB | 5 TB | 20 TB or 30 TB |
| Antigravity after November 18 | Gemini 3.8 Flash | Gemini 3.8 Flash | Adds Argon, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 | Adds Argon, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 |
The limits and context windows are from Google’s limits page, the 2 TB price from Google One, and the last row from Antigravity’s models page, where Claude on AI Pro needs a paid subscription, not a trial.
What you keep, and what you lose
The rest of the plan stays, as far as anything we read says: the storage, double the no-plan limit, video generation, 200 Google Flow credits, more Gemini Notebook, and Gemini in Gmail and Vids. BGR notes Google cut the price from $7.99 to $4.99 in June, and we found no further cut to go with this.
Three things on Google’s models page change how the plan feels without Pro:
- Flash starts at Low. Each model has Low, Medium and High thinking levels, and “If you don’t select a thinking level, it will default to Low.” Compare Flash with Pro at High, not at its default.
- Your limit should go further, and it ends in Flash-Lite. “More advanced models and higher thinking levels require more of your usage,” so Flash should cost less of the same allowance than Pro did. “If you have a Google AI plan and reach your usage limit, your chat will continue with Flash-Lite.”
- On paper, a free account can still reach Pro. With no plan, Auto sends most prompts to Flash-Lite, and “Prompts that require more reasoning may use Flash or Pro.” Free users can’t choose it. Google’s tables show Auto only for accounts without a plan, and don’t say whether AI Plus prompts can ever be routed to Pro.
The change covers personal accounts. On a work or school account, models “depend on your Workspace license.”
If you code on AI Plus, there’s more. Google describes Pro as built for “complex prompts, sophisticated coding, and in-depth problem-solving,” and five days later the plan loses something else. On November 18, Antigravity removes Claude Sonnet 4.6, Opus 4.6 and GPT-OSS-120b, which leaves Gemini 3.8 Flash on AI Plus. Its remote agents, which began rolling out on November 3, need “an eligible plan (Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra).”
Your options
- Stay on AI Plus. It’s the right call if you mostly want the storage and the higher limit, or if Flash at High already does your work.
- Move to Google AI Pro, at $19.99 a month. It keeps Pro and adds Argon, twice AI Plus’s limit, a 1 million token context window, 5 TB, YouTube Premium Lite and Google Home Premium. On plans bought through Google Play, Google One says “you pay the full price of your upgraded plan and the change takes place immediately,” and that if you stay on an AI plan and add storage, “the remaining value of your original plan becomes one-time extra days of service on your new plan.” That should cover moving from Plus to Pro, though Google doesn’t name that case.
- Cancel, once you’ve checked your storage. Your benefits last “until the end of the billing cycle,” and then you’re back to 15 GB. Over that, Google says you can’t upload to Drive or back up to Photos, and “Your ability to send and receive email in Gmail can be impacted.” Google One’s Basic plan holds 100 GB for $1.99 a month, without the AI. Android Authority’s Marvin Velasco canceled, took a storage-only plan, and now uses the free tiers of Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude.
- Pay another lab instead. ChatGPT has Go at $8 a month, which “may include ads,” and Plus at $20, with “Advanced reasoning models with GPT-6.” Claude Pro is $20 a month, or $17 billed annually. You’d still need somewhere for anything past 15 GB in your Google account.
- If Pro was your coding model, pick a coding agent. Claude Pro includes Claude Code, ChatGPT Plus includes Codex, and Antigravity runs Gemini 3.8 Flash on a free weekly quota. Enjoy runs Antigravity on your Google account beside Claude Code on your Claude plan and Codex on your ChatGPT plan, and lets you switch agents in the middle of a conversation. It doesn’t add Gemini Pro to AI Plus; each agent still runs on its own lab’s plan.
What to do before November 13
- Find the email. It comes from the Google One team, and it’s the only place Google gives your date. If yours doesn’t say November 13, go by yours.
- Test Flash while you can compare. Run your hardest regular prompt on Pro and on Flash at High, side by side.
- Note where long Pro chats stand. They continue, but on another model, so a summary of the work so far helps it pick up.
- Check how you pay. In your Google One settings, see whether you’re monthly or annual and when you renew. Google One says a move from annual to monthly “takes effect at the end of your current annual term.”
What Google hasn’t said
- Why. Its help page gives no reason. An answer on its user-to-user forum cites “server infrastructure demand,” but that isn’t Google’s statement.
- What annual subscribers get. Neither the help page nor the reported email mentions refunds or credit; the email says only, as Droid Life quotes it, “You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time.” BGR reports anger from people who paid for a full year. Google One’s general policy is that storage plans are non-refundable “In most countries or regions,” and purchases through Google Play or Apple follow their policies.
- Whether every account gets November 13. Every copy we’ve seen says so, but Google’s page leaves the date to each email.
- What happens to students. Google offers AI Plus to eligible college students “in 140+ countries at no cost.” Its help page doesn’t set them apart, so expect the same change and check your email.
- Whether AI Studio changes. The email doesn’t mention it. Google’s plans page still lists “Access to our advanced models” there as “Limited” on AI Plus, without naming them, while the Gemini API’s free tier lists Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview and Argon as “Not available.”
We’ll update this memo if Google moves the date or says more about refunds.
6.Questions.
Will I lose Gemini Pro on Google AI Plus?
- Yes, from November 13, 2026, going by the email Google is sending subscribers. From then, selecting Pro models in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search “will only be available to Google AI Pro subscribers and above.” Google’s help page says your own email gives your date, so check it.
What happens to my Gemini chats that used Pro?
- They stay, but they carry on with another model. The email says “Your previous chats using the Pro model can be continued with a different model.”
Can I get a refund for AI Plus, or for my annual plan?
- Google hasn’t offered one for this change. Neither its help page nor the reported email mentions refunds, and its Google One page says “In most countries or regions, Google storage plan purchases are non-refundable.” If you paid for a year, ask Google One support, or Google Play or Apple if you bought it there.
Is Google AI Plus still worth it without Pro?
- It is if you mainly want 400 GB of storage and twice the no-plan Gemini limit, with Flash to choose yourself. It isn’t if Pro was why you paid. Run your hardest regular prompt on Flash at the High thinking level before November 13, and let that decide.
What’s the cheapest way to keep Gemini Pro?
- Google AI Pro, at $19.99 a month in the US, is the cheapest plan that keeps it in the Gemini app. Developers can instead pay per token on the Gemini API, where Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview costs $2 in and $12 out per million tokens on prompts up to 200,000 tokens. The API’s free tier doesn’t include it.
Does this change Antigravity?
- Not directly, because the email names only the Gemini app and AI Mode. But AI Plus already can’t use Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity, and on November 18 Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Opus 4.6 leave it, which leaves Gemini 3.8 Flash. What changes there.
