- Conductor joining Meta
Meta bought Conductor. Its cloud ends November 20, and the Mac app winds down in 2027
Conductor said on November 4, 2026 that it’s joining Meta, and it stopped new sign-ups and downloads that day. Conductor Cloud goes read-only on November 13 and shuts down on November 20, when deletion of its data begins, so move cloud workspaces to your Mac or export them first. The Mac app keeps working, with new models and critical fixes, until it winds down in early 2027.
What Conductor announced
Conductor, the Mac app for running Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode side by side, said on November 4, 2026: “I have big news: Conductor is joining Meta.” Axios broke the deal, citing sources, and says financial terms weren’t disclosed. Meta confirmed it to TechCrunch but “wouldn’t comment further or provide additional details.” Charlie Holtz, Conductor’s CEO, said on X he looks forward to working with Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, TechCrunch reports.
The product is being wound down on this timeline, from Conductor’s announcement:
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| November 4, 2026 | No new sign-ups or downloads. Free users can’t upgrade; Pro users keep Pro features for free |
| November 13, 2026 | Conductor Cloud goes read-only: “You can still read old chats and export data, but you can’t send new messages.” Active subscribers get a refund |
| November 20, 2026 | Conductor Cloud shuts down: “We begin deleting Conductor Cloud user data” |
| Early 2027 | The Mac app stops getting new models and critical fixes and starts winding down. “We’ll delete all Conductor user data when the app shuts down” |
The Mac app isn’t frozen yet: version 0.93.0, the same release that carries the news, added GPT-6.1 Terra to its Codex model picker.
Who it affects
Conductor’s homepage says “Trusted by 100k+ builders.” What changes depends on how you use it.
- Conductor Cloud users have nine days. This is the urgent group: from November 13 you can’t send new messages in Cloud, and on November 20 deletion begins.
- Teams on Cloud lose shared work. Conductor’s multiplayer docs describe shared workspaces as a feature of “a Cloud organization.” The announcement doesn’t mention multiplayer, but plan on it ending with Cloud, and agree who transfers what.
- Mac users on local workspaces can carry on for now. “Local Conductor will continue working as normal for now.” The iOS app’s remote control “works with local workspaces only,” so nothing announced ends it before the Mac app does.
- New users can’t start. Windows and Linux users were never served: the installation page still says “Conductor is not available for Windows or Linux yet.”
Your agents’ plans aren’t touched. Conductor runs Claude Code, Codex and Cursor on your own subscriptions and keys, so those bills carry on and work elsewhere.
What to do before November 13
- Transfer the cloud workspaces you want. Right-click a workspace and choose Transfer to local, which moves it and its chats to your Mac. Conductor says you can still export after November 13, but it doesn’t say Transfer to local still works once Cloud is read-only, so don’t wait.
- Export everything. Go to Settings → Account → Export data for an archive of all your Conductor data. Do this on local-only setups too, before early 2027.
- Push your branches. Each workspace maps to one Git branch, so code you’ve pushed is safe in your repository. Notes in a workspace’s
.contextfolder aren’t committed, so copy any you want. - Clean up access when you’re done. Cloud setup has you connect the Conductor GitHub App and add a subscription token or API key. This is our advice rather than Conductor’s: once your work is out, remove the app from GitHub and revoke those credentials.
- Email support if something’s stuck: the announcement gives support@conductor.build.
Where to go next
Conductor says of its next product only that “We’ll have something new for you to use early next year.” You don’t have to wait for it. Our Conductor alternatives guide compares these in full, with each one’s limits:
| You used Conductor for | Options | Price, checked November 4, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Parallel agents on your computer | Orca, T3 Code, Paseo | Free and open source |
| Every lab’s agent across your projects | Enjoy, which is our product | A monthly subscription, free for 7 days (pricing) |
| Cloud workspaces for a team | Paradev, formerly Superset | Team $60 a user a month, or $54 billed yearly, with cloud workspaces in beta |
| Agents that run with your Mac off, one lab | Codex Cloud, Claude Code cloud sessions | ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro, $20 a month |
Enjoy doesn’t replace Conductor Cloud: its agents run on your computer, and scheduled workflows run only while it’s awake with Enjoy open. What it does do is run Claude Code, Codex and other labs’ agents in worktrees on Mac, Windows and Linux, on the plans you already have.
Why it matters that it’s Meta
Conductor was useful because it was neutral: it ran other companies’ agents. Meta sells its own, Muse Code, and Axios writes that the deal “will lay the groundwork for the company’s models and ecosystem to compete for coders.” Nothing published says the next product will or won’t run Claude Code and Codex.
Data is the other question. Conductor’s promise about its own data is clear, but it doesn’t describe a new product. For comparison, Meta’s Muse Code subscriptions “default to Contributor mode,” in which you let “Meta use your content to train future Meta models” until you turn it off. Read the terms of whatever comes next before you connect a repository to it.
It’s also part of a pattern. OpenAI told Axios the same day that it plans to acquire Pierre Computer, another developer tools startup.
What hasn’t been said
- What the next product is. Conductor’s FAQ says: “We can’t share much yet.” It hasn’t said which agents it will run, what it will cost, or whether it will run on Windows or Linux.
- The exact date in early 2027 when the Mac app stops, or whether existing copies stop opening at that point.
- Whether existing users can download the app again, for example on a new Mac.
- How refunds work, including amounts and timing, and how Teams plans are treated, which the announcement doesn’t name.
- Anything from Meta itself. We found no Meta announcement, and it wouldn’t give TechCrunch details.
7.Questions.
Is Conductor shutting down?
- Yes, in two steps. Conductor Cloud goes read-only on November 13, 2026 and shuts down on November 20. The Mac app keeps working and gets new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, when Conductor says it will “start winding down.”
Can I still download Conductor?
- Not as a new user. Conductor’s announcement says “New users can no longer sign up for Conductor or download the app,” as of November 4, 2026. It doesn’t say whether people who already have an account can download it again on a new Mac.
How do I get my work out of Conductor Cloud?
- Right-click a cloud workspace and choose Transfer to local to move it and its chats to your Mac. To download all your data, go to Settings → Account → Export data. Do both before November 13, when Cloud goes read-only; deletion begins on November 20.
Will I get a refund, and do I keep Pro?
- Conductor says “Active subscribers will get a refund” and “pro users can keep using pro features for free.” Free users can’t upgrade. It hasn’t said how a refund is worked out or when it arrives, beyond listing refunds under November 13.
Will Meta train on my Conductor data?
- Conductor says no. “We have never sold or trained on Conductor user data, and we still won’t,” its announcement says, and it will delete all user data when the app shuts down in early 2027. That promise covers Conductor; neither company has said what terms its next product will have.
What should I switch to?
- It depends on what you used. For parallel agents on your computer, Orca, T3 Code and Paseo are free and open source, and Enjoy runs every lab’s agent across your projects. For work that continues with your computer off, look at Paradev’s cloud workspaces, in beta, Codex Cloud or Claude Code’s cloud sessions. See Conductor alternatives.
