ChatGPT Pro 200 on October 30

ChatGPT Pro 200 drops from 20 to 10 times Plus usage on October 30

On October 30, 2026, existing ChatGPT Pro 200 subscriptions move to a smaller allowance. Codex and ChatGPT Work usage falls from 20 to 10 times the Plus allowance, and GPT-6 Pro in Chat from 200 to 100 messages a week, according to OpenAI’s email to subscribers. The price stays $200 a month, and the email adds 62,500 usage credits that expire on December 31, 2026.

What changes on October 30

OpenAI had paused new Pro 200 subscriptions. On September 29, 2026, the day of its DevDay, it reopened them with a smaller allowance, and gave existing subscribers a month on the old one. Its help article on Pro tiers says eligible customers “can use the previous included allowance through October 29, 2026,” and that “after that date, your subscription will move to the lower included usage allowance.”

The help article gives no numbers. OpenAI’s email to those subscribers does, in a copy one of them posted on Hacker News: “Starting October 30, 2026, your included usage in ChatGPT Work and Codex will decrease from 20 times to 10 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance. Your GPT-6 Pro limit in Chat will decrease from 200 to 100 messages per week.”

An existing Pro 200 subscription Through October 29 From October 30
Price $200 a month $200 a month
Codex and ChatGPT Work 20 times Plus 10 times Plus
GPT-6 Pro in Chat 200 messages a week 100 messages a week
Five-hour limit None None
Ultrafast Not included Not included

Codex, ChatGPT Work and the ChatGPT add-ins for Word, Excel and PowerPoint draw on one allowance, according to OpenAI’s credits article, so the cut reaches all of them. When you reach the GPT-6 Pro weekly limit on Pro 200, ChatGPT switches to GPT-5.6 Thinking at Medium, says its models article.

Who it affects

  • Affected: accounts with an active Pro 200 subscription at any point from September 22, 2026 through 10 a.m. Pacific Time on September 29. That includes anyone who canceled and later subscribed again on the same account. Only affected users get OpenAI’s email.
  • Already on the new allowance: anyone who started Pro 200 after that cutoff. Those subscriptions include “a lower usage allowance than previously offered with Pro 200,” in OpenAI’s words.
  • Not changing: OpenAI’s notices announce no change to Plus or Pro 100. And keeping the old allowance never added Pro 500’s features: “Your subscription remains Pro 200.”

OpenAI’s help center only ranks the plans: “Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100. Pro 500 offers the highest included usage of the three plans.” The multiples come from OpenAI’s Thibault Sottiaux, who listed them on DevDay as “Plus = 1X,” “Pro 100 = 5X” and “Pro 200 = 10X,” and from the email, which gives Pro 500 “25 times the usage of Plus.”

Plan Price a month Codex and Work usage Ultrafast
Plus $20 The Plus allowance No
Pro 100 $100 5 times Plus No
Pro 200, until October 29 $200 20 times Plus No
Pro 200, from October 30 $200 10 times Plus No
Pro 500 $500 25 times Plus Yes

Do the arithmetic and every plan now costs the same for each Plus-sized allowance, $20. The old Pro 200, at 20 times Plus, worked out to $10. Sottiaux put it this way the night before: the new Pro 200 “will net out at half the dollar in API spend compared to the old Pro $200 plan.”

What OpenAI gives in return

No five-hour limit. The email says OpenAI is “committing to not reintroducing the 5hr limit so that you can fully use your weekly usage when you want.” OpenAI’s usage guide says Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 “currently have no five-hour usage limit in Work and Codex,” so Pro’s Codex and Work allowance is counted only by the week.

62,500 usage credits. The email calls them “a $2,500 USD value” and says they “will expire on December 31, 2026.” They show in Settings > Usage. OpenAI’s help articles on Pro and on credits don’t mention the grant, so check your balance there rather than count on it.

Credits pay for usage after your included allowance is spent, in Codex, ChatGPT Work and the Office add-ins. Codex’s pricing page gives the rates per million tokens: GPT-6.1 Sol costs 50 credits for input and 250 for output, GPT-6 Astra 250 and 1,250, and GPT-6 Luna 2.5 and 12.5. Ultrafast isn’t available on Pro 200, “including through credits.”

What to do before October 30

  1. Check whether you’re affected. Look for OpenAI’s email, then open Settings > Usage in ChatGPT, or Usage & Billing in the Codex app, for your allowance, its reset time and your credit balance.
  2. Measure a normal week. The new allowance is half the one you have now. If your heaviest weeks use less than half of it, little changes for you. If they use less than a quarter, Pro 100’s 5 times Plus covers them for $100.
  3. If you need more, pick how to pay for it. Spend the granted credits first, since they expire on December 31. After that, you can buy more credits; buy an instant reset, which refills the weekly allowance at once but can’t be saved, moves your weekly reset date, and is “generally” not refunded; or move to Pro 500.
  4. Make the allowance go further. OpenAI suggests lower reasoning effort, and says “Astra at Low effort can outperform Sol at High effort.” Its Codex pricing page adds smaller prompts, fewer MCP servers and a shorter AGENTS.md.

Canceling and subscribing again doesn’t help. After October 29, no Pro 200 subscription keeps the old allowance.

When Codex runs out in the middle of a task

Half the allowance means more weeks that end early. Enjoy runs Codex on your ChatGPT plan, beside Claude Code, Antigravity, Grok Build and local models through OpenCode, and keeps the work moving when a limit hits:

  • When Codex runs out, the conversation waits for the reset and carries on by itself, as long as the computer is awake and Enjoy is open. If you’ve signed in another ChatGPT account with usage left, it moves there instead.
  • Or switch the conversation to another agent, such as Claude Code on a Claude plan or a free local model, and the new agent catches up on the work so far.
  • Its usage meters show what each account has left before you start a big job.

Enjoy itself is free. It doesn’t add usage to a ChatGPT plan: each agent runs on the plan you already have.

What OpenAI hasn’t said

  • What time on October 30 the change takes effect, or how it lines up with your weekly reset.
  • How many GPT-6 Pro messages Pro 100 includes. There, OpenAI says the two Pro models “draw from one weekly allowance,” without a number.
  • What dots will use. The email says conversations with your dot and the work it does directly “don’t draw on your ChatGPT usage allowance.” OpenAI’s release notes said on September 29 that dots wouldn’t count toward plan allowances “for the next month,” and that “after this period, we’ll share usage terms for each plan.” It hadn’t published those terms by October 23.

We’ll update this memo if OpenAI moves the date or publishes the new limits.

7.Questions.

Is ChatGPT Pro 200 being cut on October 30?

Yes, for subscribers who still have the old allowance. From October 30, 2026, their Codex and ChatGPT Work usage drops from 20 to 10 times the Plus allowance, and GPT-6 Pro in Chat from 200 to 100 messages a week. The price stays $200 a month.

I subscribed to Pro 200 in October. Does this change my plan?

No. Pro 200 subscriptions that started after 10 a.m. Pacific Time on September 29, 2026 have had the smaller allowance from the start. Only accounts with an active Pro 200 subscription between September 22 and that cutoff kept the old one, and only through October 29.

Should I switch from Pro 200 to Pro 100?

Yes, if your heaviest weeks fit in 5 times the Plus allowance, which is what Pro 100 gives for half the price, by OpenAI’s figures. That’s a quarter of the old Pro 200’s Codex and Work usage, and half of the new one’s.

Is Pro 500 worth it after the change?

Only if you need more than the new Pro 200 or want Ultrafast. Pro 500 gives 25 times Plus usage for $500, the same price per unit as the new Pro 200, and it’s the only Pro plan with Ultrafast.

What are the 62,500 usage credits, and when do they expire?

A one-time grant to existing Pro 200 subscribers, which OpenAI values at $2,500. They appear in Settings > Usage, pay for Codex and ChatGPT Work once your included usage runs out, and expire on December 31, 2026. They don’t unlock Ultrafast.

Will the five-hour limit come back on Pro 200?

No, according to OpenAI. Its email to subscribers says it is “committing to not reintroducing the 5hr limit,” and its help center says Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 currently have no five-hour limit in Work and Codex. The weekly allowance still applies.
